Believe It Till You Make It

One of the hardest things for a business owner to do is step back. Not because they don’t want the freedom, but because stepping back requires something that can feel far riskier: trust.

It’s easy to tell yourself, “Nobody can do this like I can.” And sometimes, that’s not even about ego, you could probably do the task yourself in half the time it would take to explain it to someone else. But that’s a short-term solution. Doing it yourself might save time today, but it keeps you responsible for the same task tomorrow, and the day after that. It becomes a Band-Aid that solves the immediate problem while quietly creating a bigger one.

This is where we need to rethink the old idea of “fake it till you make it.”

What if, instead, you believed it till you made it? You don’t need to pretend you have everything figured out. You just need enough confidence in what you already know, the people around you and the processes you’ve put in place to take the next step.

Maybe leaving someone in charge for six weeks feels impossible. Fine. Start with one week. If one week feels too much, start with a day.

The goal isn’t to suddenly disappear from the business, it’s to prove to yourself that the business can function without you doing everything. And often, you’ll discover that the process was already there, the team was more capable than you thought, and the thing you were worried would fall apart… didn’t.

That’s how freedom is built. Not through one dramatic decision, but through a series of small moments where you choose to trust instead of taking control back.

It’s also why comparing your business to someone else’s can be so unhelpful. You’re looking at their day 3000 and comparing it to your day 1,000, or 100, or 10. You see the polished business, the confident team and the freedom they seem to have, but you don’t see the years of processes, mistakes, delegation and small steps that got them there.

So instead of asking, “Why am I not there yet?” ask, “What’s the next step I can trust myself to take?”

Because you don’t need to have it all worked out. You just need to believe enough in what you’ve already built to let go of one thing, trust someone else with it and take the next step towards getting your freedom back.
